'The New Breed' Austrian Whites
In this exciting bundle we feature a Riesling, a Grüner Veltliner, and a field blend, and we aim to provide a glimpse into why Austria is often described as one of Europe’s most exciting wine countries. We are proud to be working with three of Austria's most promising young talents, as showcased here.
(Kamptal, Austria) Nibiru – Grundstein Riesling 2019
Stunningly pure Riesling from rocky terraced vineyards in the northernmost tip of the Kamptal region. Here, notes of clementine and orange zest interplay with wild herbs and a potent ‘stony,’ or mineral finish. A great entry-point into the wines of Julia & Josef, a young couple who are only on their third vintage but showing impressive maturity.
(Burgenland, Austria) Joiseph - Mischkultur 2018
A 'field' blend of 6 varieties, meaning that they are all grown together in the same vineyard, harvested together, and vinified together. This wine is fresh and highly drinkable but also has just enough texture, a lovely aromatic profile, and is very immediate. Joiseph is a collaboration between three friends that started with the 2015 vintage and has grown from a tiny hectare to nearly five hectares. The wines across the range are distinct, wildly exciting, and full of energy.
(Kamptal, Austria) Malinga – Grüner Veltliner 2018
A serious expression of Grüner Veltliner showing wonderful tension alongside a generous texture. Savoury notes alongside lime and spices, a complex aromatic profile, and a gorgeous finish make this wine one of our current favourites. Made by Christoph Heiss, a young producer who has recently taken over his family's winery in Engabrunn, Kamptal, and is producing some of the most exciting wines in Austria today. Christoph is a big proponent of natural farming and biodiversity, and we're excited to follow him on his journey.
