Joiseph - Muskat Ottonel 2019
(Burgenland, Austria)
Another limited, single-varietal release from Joiseph. Muskat Ottonel is known for its extravagant aromatics, tropical and floral notes, and moreish character when in the right hands. This example sees two weeks of skin contact, and aging in old barrels. The colour is mild, and whilst this is a very expressive wine in terms of its aromatic profile, it features a restrained palate that veers more towards the citrus side than the over-the-top tropical side that this grape can sometimes produce. It's fresh, mouthwatering, and it's possible you will actually spend more time smelling it than drinking it. Gorgeous stuff.
Joiseph is a collaboration between three friends that started with the 2015 vintage and has grown from a tiny hectare to nearly five hectares. The wines across the range are distinct, wildly exciting, and full of energy.
