Fattoria di Sammontana - Primo Fuoco Rosato 2022

(Tuscany, Italy) 

A wonderful, complex rosé made from Montepulciano and Merlot. The grapes are pressed as soon as they arrive at the winery, and the juice is transferred to a clay amphora where it ferments and then ages for 8 months. The result is a wonderfully tense and mineral, almost salty rosé. Initially shy on the nose, it then opens up into a proper elegant wine. It also has a pretty incredible bright and deep pink colour.

Made by Daniele & Dario, the fourth generation at this biodynamic Tuscan estate. Within the range they make a balanced mix of traditional Sangioveses along with experimental wines vinified in clay amphoras (see the orange wine section).
