Colombo Wines - Rosie Rosé 2023
(Stellenbosch, South Africa)
While Daniel Colombo is best known for his minimalist, texture-driven, skin-contact whites, adding this Rosé to the lineup represents not a departure but a testament to his clarity of vision. Inspired by and named after his toddler daughter, the rosé is a blend of Colombar and Cinsault, two traditional but largely unappreciated workhouses of South African viticulture. This is an approachable rose, light on the palate with bright red fresh fruit, but the Colombar adds an unexpected edge and complexity. All the energy of it’s namesake, but with a sophistication and refinement beyond its years.
Daniel Colombo is a winemaker with a clear philosophy and a minimalist approach in the vineyard and winery that highlights the purity of the fruit and unique expressions of terroir. Daniel is best experienced in his own words, and says of the project ‘My wines are part of an idea. A collection of history, culture, and taste that I think is truly unique to the South African landscape. Honest wines that tell a story of love and tragedy simultaneously without compromise.’
