Silice Viticultores - Finca Lobeiras 2017
(Ribeira Sacra, Galicia, Spain)
Total production = under 300 bottles
The 'Finca' series of three wines from Silice Viticultores represent a triumph in their journey to recover age-old parcels from the landscapes of their youth in the jaw-dropping beauty of the forgotten Ribeira Sacra.
These are wines that speak of their heroic and extreme viticulture, very old vines, old tradition, but also simplicity. With the raw material being this good, one should do the utmost minimum to bring out its inherent magnificence.
The Finca wines are always vinified with 100% whole bunches, and aged in small (but old) barrels for 16-18 months before aging in bottle for another 18-24 months.
'Finca Lobeiras' is the most linear of the three, the most tense and yet the most surprising. On the nose it's an absolute explosion of flowers, red fruits, and sweet spices. One of those wines you get lost in before you've even tasted it. In the mouth it's layered, dense, velvety, but with a pronounced tension and mouthwatering acidity. Impressive length and complexity, a wine you are not likely to forget anytime soon.
Drinking well now, will also benefit from cellaring
This wine comes in an individual wooden box, and has been hand-numbered by the winemakers.
